Hola! Let me introduce myself. My name is Nery. I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpretation from Ricardo Palma University (Lima, Peru) in the languages of Spanish, English and French. I have over thirty years’ experience teaching Spanish, English and French to students of all ages, backgrounds and levels. I have taught English and Spanish as a second language in Madrid, Spain where I lived for eleven years and taught Spanish and French in Lille, France where I lived for over a year. I have been living in the United States since 2002. I earned a Teaching Certificate from the State of Ohio Department of Education and taught Spanish in Cleveland for eight years. I studied English Literature and Methodology of Teaching at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia.
My teaching experience includes group classes, one-on-one tutoring and corporate settings. I have worked with a diverse range of clients in a variety of industries. Some of the places where I taught Spanish include: St Albert The Great School, Stockyard Community School in Cleveland, Ohio; Davidson Day School, The Language Academy of the Carolinas in Charlotte, North Carolina; Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, Carousel of Languages in New York; the Oxford Institute, Rio Institute and Cervantes Institute in Madrid, Spain, among others. Some Corporates include: ACN, Rubec Properties, Key Bank, just to mention some. I also taught English in Lima, Peru at the Católica University, Pacifico University, British Institute and IPP (Instituto peruano de Publicidad).
Philosophy of teaching: I teach Spanish in a dynamic style, creating an active learning environment which actively engages students and makes the content more comprehensible. Everyone learns differently and there are different ways to achieve a goal. Part of my responsibility as an instructor is to design programs and activities that address the diverse abilities and language needs of my students. The goal of studying a foreign language like Spanish is to communicate, so I provide an interactive, dynamic and personalized training focusing on communication.
I have helped thousands of clients to communicate effectively in a new language. I enjoy helping my students reach their short- and long-term language goals. I am passionate about teaching and promoting the learning of the Spanish language and culture. In my free time, I like reading, traveling, learning about new cultures, listening to music, and dancing.
